Sofia, Bulgaria Set to Become Major Flight Destination
According to recent travel news, Sofia is now on the hitlist of many of the worlds no-frills airlines.
This is good news for Bansko skiers and property owners as Sofia is the closest airport to Bansko.

According to Sofia airport authorities, four European airlines – Air Berlin, easyJet, KLM and May Air - are currently in talks regarding new flights to the Bulgarian capital.
Air Berlin is proposing direct flights linking Sofia with the German capital, Berlin and is hopeful that it could begin operations on the route next year.
Italian airline May Air is keen to begin flights from Sofia to Bologna and Venice next year, while KLM is proposing a new direct link from the airport to the Danish capital, Copenhagen.
Last month, Wizz Air became the first low-cost airline to fly to Sofia when it launched flights from Budapest and it has recently added an additional weekly flight on the route as a result of high demand.
Rival airline SkyEurope has recently announced that it will begin flights to the Bulgarian capital from Bratislava in December.
Sofia’s low prices and fascinating blend of medieval, socialist and modern architecture have made it a popular city break destination for European travellers. The airport is also a gateway for connecting flights to Bulgarian Black Sea resorts such as Varna and Bourgas.
Wizz flies from London Luton to Sofia via Budapest, while British Airways offers direct flights to the Bulgarian capital from London Heathrow.
So, before you know it you could be jumping on a plane straight to Bansko from anywhere in Britain and Ireland.
